2009 Harley Touring Hitch with bumper
Remove saddlebags.
Carefully slide the side plate between the rear fender and the saddle bag mounts.
Attach side plates using 2 – 1 ½ inch 5/16 bolts and washers. On the front bolt install a 3/8 inch spacer between the hitch and the chrome strut cover. On the rear bolt install a 1/2 inch spacer between the hitch and the chrome strut cover, (start bolts do not tighten yet).
Repeat the above step for the other side of the bike.
Place the base plate on top of the 2 side plates at the rear of the bike insert 4 carriage bolts in the holes of the side plates and through the base plate. You may have to pull the side plates to the outside to get the bolts through the holes, this is why we do not tighten the side plate bolts yet.
Remove the bolt at the rear of the bike that goes through the rear bumper mount and install the L bracket using the 5/16 x 1/ ¼ inch bolt (You will have to add a ½ inch spacer between the L- bracket and the bumper bracket). Install a carriage bolt through the L bracket and the base plate.
Repeat the above step for the other side.
Install 6 washers and locking nuts on the bottom of the 6 carriage bolts.. Now tighten the 4 bolts that hold the side plates to the rear fender struts. Make sure the base plate is centered and then tighten the 6 nuts on the bottom of the carriage bolts. Be sure to tighten the ½ inch bolt that goes through the receiver to eliminate any rattles and install the cotter pin for safety.
Reinstall the saddlebags.
